After years of reading labels and gradually swapping out everyday essentials, these are a few products I genuinely love and use regularly. I’m sharing them because they strike a thoughtful balance between safer ingredients, effective formulation, and accessibility. They can be a helpful starting point if you’re not sure where to begin.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start small. I recommend downloading my ingredient cheat sheet (click here and scroll down the page) and using the app to search the products you already own. Begin with personal care, then move to laundry, followed by kitchen, and finally textiles. (If you’re working to address a specific health concern, you may want to prioritize that category first — for example, digestive concerns may lead you to start in the kitchen.)
The app provides simple ratings: green = good, orange = ok, red = more concerning. Focus on replacing the products with red ratings first. After that, swap items as you run out or they expire. You don’t need to replace everything at once. Even one or two small changes can make a meaningful difference over time. The goal is simply to lower your overall exposure, gradually and sustainably.
…pssst…come back from time to time. I’ll be expanding and updating my featured products as I discover new favorites.
La Roche-Posay Face Cleanser
Very gentle cleanser that helps remove makeup without over-drying. They have another version for oily skin, which my husband loves.
Salt & Stone Deodorant
A healthy aluminum free deodorant that is effective and smells divine.
Dr. Bronner’s Soap
They have great scents, EWG rated, and biodegradable which means you can also take it camping.
Dr. Bronner’s Lip Balm
Unlike some chapsticks, this one actually adds moisture, and doesn’t make my lips peel.
Well People Tinted Moisturizer (SPF 30)
Moisturizer + Makeup + SPF. The perfect combo for summer makeup.
Ilia Cheek and Lip Tint
I love a two-fer. This one is very creamy and easy to apply, but if you are putting it on your cheeks I recommend blending with a good stiff brush vs. using your hands.
Ilia Lip Tint
I love this product. It is somewhere in between a tinted lip balm, and lipstick. It looks good for everyday wear and doesn’t dry out my lips.
RMS Beauty Living Luminizer Glow Quad
Honestly my favorite item in my makeup bag.
The dark color is the perfect bronzer, and the lighter colors are great highlighters. Makes my skin look “dewey” which is soooo helpful as my skin ages. You can put it on over foundation or by itself.
Tarte Double-Take Eyeliner
This one is both liquid and gel, as well as waterproof.
I have had an issue finding clean ones that stay on, and don’t transfer. This one works really well, but is a “medium clean” product.
Luminous Rose Beauty Face Cream
This is one of my favorites. It’s truly artisanal skincare, made in small batches by a female-owned business that cares deeply about ingredient quality. The plant-based extracts help soften the look of fine lines, improve skin tone, and support collagen. She also formulates according to UK ingredient standards, which are known for being especially strict.
Attitude Sunscreen
Attitude is a very well rated brand. They make sunscreen in SPF 30 and 50, as well as in stick, lotion, and spray form. It also claims to be white cast free (which I prefer for myself). I have not tried this one just yet, but it is on my list of ones to try out on vacation!
Think Kids Sunscreen
I love this one for my son. It comes in spray form which makes it easy to apply and does have a white cast which means it’s easy to see where I missed. Plus it’s reef safe.
Cleaning Products
Molly’s Suds Wood Dryer Balls
I absolutely love these for a couple of reasons…You toss them in the dryer with your wet clothes and it helps shorten drying time, plus they eliminate the need for dryer sheets, saving you money. If you like fragrance, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to one of the balls- a little goes a long way.
Aspen Oxygen Bleach
This is a brand that’s consistently highly rated across all of its products. I’ve personally used their oxygen bleach on my white sheets and towels (even though it’s color-safe), and it works fabulously. It performs far better than traditional chlorine bleach — and it’s a much safer, healthier option too.
Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder
This laundry detergent is in powder form and goes a long way. It’s safe to use on most fabrics and cleans well while avoiding harsher ingredients. You can also make a stain lifting paste from it. It was developed-by a pediatric nurse and is manufactured in the US. It also comes in light fragrance options. The biggest downside is the plastic packaging, but I love the performance.
Attitude Toy & Surface Cleaner
This brand is another one that’s consistently highly rated across all of its products. A great option, especially when it is likely to end up in baby’s mouth,
Blueland Surface Cleaner
I love that it comes with a reusable bottle and refillable tablets that simply dissolve in water. It’s a great option for anyone looking to reduce excessive packaging and keep waste out of landfills. Plus, the ingredients are very clean and it does everything I need it to.
Blueland Dishwasher Detergent Tablets
This one avoids microplastics in your dishwasher, and avoids the harsher chemicals that can impact your gut microbiome.
Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner
Naturally sanitizes without the need for lots of chemicals. Does all the hard work for you.
A note on cleaning
Over the years of researching and learning about how everyday chemicals can impact our health, I’ve come to appreciate a simple truth: we don’t always need as many products as we’ve been led to believe.
For those who enjoy a simpler, more hands-on approach, many effective household cleaners can be made at home using just a few everyday ingredients like white vinegar, baking soda, lemon, gentle soap, rubbing alcohol, and essential oils (if you prefer fragrance). These basics can handle a wide range of cleaning tasks while reducing unnecessary chemical exposure, packaging, and cost.
Of course, DIY isn’t realistic for everyone — and that’s completely okay. Life is busy, and convenience matters. That’s why I also share thoughtfully formulated, store-bought options that are aligned with the same values of safer ingredients and transparency. My goal is simply to help you find what works best for your home, your schedule, and your comfort level.

Kitchen Swaps
Caraway Non-stick Ceramic Cookware
They make cookware, bakeware, cutting boards, food storage and more. They are very well rated and come in pretty color options. All without the toxins.

Glass food storage that nests. Makes it way easier to store in your drawers/ cabinets, and you can reheat in the container, no need to transfer to another pan.
Stasher Silicone Reusable Storage Bags
I absolutely love these! They come is several sizes and shapes. Great for general food storage and really great for taking snacks for my 5-year-old on-the-go. They are a short term investment, but cuts down on the long term cost of buying plastic ziplocks. Plus it’s way healthier for you and our environment.
Boos Block Maple Cutting Board
This wood cutting board is a solid investment and a much healthier alternative to plastic. It will stand the test of time. We’ve had ours for 10 years and it’s still going strong. It is reversible with sloped juice groove. Made in the USA.
